Concrete and excavation, from the same crew
Most concrete companies sub out the dirt work and most excavators will not finish flatwork. We do both, so the job that is normally three contractors and three schedules is one contract and one number to call.
Patios
Patios, walkways, entries and stoops, from a plain broom finish to exposed aggregate. Poured over a base we built ourselves, with the fall worked out before the forms go up.
Foundations
Footings, stem walls and slab-on-grade for houses, additions, shops and outbuildings — dug, formed, poured and finished by one crew, on the framer's schedule.
Excavation & Site Prep
Site cuts, grading, base rock and compaction, with our own machines and operators. This is the half of a concrete job most concrete companies hand to somebody else.
Garages & Shop Floors
An interior floor is a different pour from a patio, and the difference is underneath the concrete. Garage slabs, shop and barn floors, and outbuilding slabs specified for the load that will actually live on them.
Concrete Restoration & Resurfacing
Not every worn-out patio needs replacing. Cleaning, stain removal and color work can bring a sound slab back for a fraction of what a tear-out costs.
Drainage
French drains, footing and curtain drains, catch basins and regrading. If water is standing where it should not be, the fix is almost always upstream of where you are seeing it.
ADU Foundations
A detached ADU needs the ground cut and compacted, footings and a stem wall poured to inspection, and water, sewer and power trenched out from the house. Most contractors do one of those three. We do all of them, with our own crew.
Demolition & Concrete Removal
Old concrete out, debris hauled away, and the ground graded back to a surface you can build on. Most of our tear-outs are the first stage of a job we are also pouring, so the site is left ready for what comes next rather than simply cleared.
Utility Trenching
Water, sewer, power, gas and conduit trenched, bedded, backfilled and compacted. The line to a shop, a well, a new house or an ADU is one more thing you do not have to sub out.
Sidewalks, Approaches & Curbs
Public and commercial flatwork poured to a written spec, with the street kept open and the business kept trading. There is an inspector, a submittal and a traffic plan, and most residential concrete crews are not set up for any of the three.
Commercial Concrete
Large slabs, building pads and industrial pours — held to the same standard as a backyard patio: thorough, professional, no corners cut. We keep the excavation, the base and the concrete under one contract, so one team is accountable for the ground and for everything that goes on top of it. Big job or small, every project gets our full attention from the first cut to the final finish.

I started 5 Rivers because I wanted to build a concrete and excavation company that people could trust and that actually cared about the quality of the work. That is Patrick, the owner, in his own words, and 5 Rivers Concrete & Excavation has been in business since 2018 on exactly that basis. He has been doing this work for over 25 years — most of that before there was a company name on the truck.
What makes the company useful is narrower and more practical: we self-perform the excavation, the foundation and the flatwork. Customers don't have to coordinate several different contractors when we can handle the work ourselves. On a job that would otherwise need an excavator, a foundation crew and a finisher, that is one contract, one schedule and one person answerable for the whole thing — including the part underground that nobody sees and that everything else depends on.
We are family owned, and the people who quote your job are the people who do it. We show up, communicate, and stand behind our work. We're not trying to be the biggest company around. We want to be known for doing quality work and treating people right.

We come out, measure, look at your access and where the water goes, and leave you with an itemised written quote rather than a number scribbled on a card. On a tear-out job the quote includes haul-off and disposal, because that is one of the classic places a cheap-looking bid quietly is not one. Yes. 5 Rivers Concrete & Excavation is licensed with the Oregon Construction Contractors Board under CCB #251334, and we carry both a surety bond and general liability insurance. You can verify any Oregon contractor's license, bond and insurance status yourself on the CCB's public search — we would encourage you to do that with anyone who quotes your job, including us. A current certificate of insurance is available on request.
We do it, and it is the main reason to call us. Customers don't have to coordinate several different contractors when we can handle the work ourselves. Most concrete companies sub the dirt work out and most excavators will not come back to finish flatwork, so a driveway replacement or an ADU foundation ends up being two or three contracts with a gap between each one. With us the same crew cuts the pad, compacts the base, pours the concrete and trenches the utilities. One schedule, one number to call, and nobody blaming the last trade.
Foot traffic is generally fine after 24 to 48 hours, depending on the weather. Passenger vehicles should stay off for a full 7 days. Anything heavy — an RV, a loaded truck, a dumpster, a moving van — should wait 28 days, which is when a standard mix reaches its rated compressive strength. Concrete keeps gaining strength well past that; those first few days are simply when it is most vulnerable. We will give you the specific timeline for your slab and your mix before we leave the site.

On standard residential work we take a deposit at scheduling with the balance due on completion, and the payment schedule is written into the estimate so there is no surprise on the final invoice. Larger projects can usually be phased so the cost lands across two budgets — the driveway this season and the shop slab next, for example. If phasing helps, say so early, because it changes how we sequence the dirt work.
